The dolls to watch out for in the year 2015 are the Queen of Africa dolls. The doll specially crafted to excite and meet the needs of the black child.
Even though these set of African dolls made a late arrival into the world market, it made an explosive entry, beating the record of the blonde white Barbie doll that was launched in America in 1959.
The brain behind the Queen of Africa dolls is Taofick Okoya from the popular Okoya dynasty. A suave gentleman whose ideas never run dry. He was a ceramics graduate at the Yaba College of Technology, Nigeria; and he also attended the Centre of Pottery in the UK.
Ever since he graduated, he had been designing and hand painting exclusively. He later formed his own company called Fiko Solutions which was into soft furnishings, clothing, shoes and novelty items supplies.
His creativity led him into manufacturing the African dolls. He was concerned with the rate at which white dolls flooded the market when he was shopping for a gift for his niece. He decided there and then that he had to make a change. That was how the Queen of African Dolls came into being. They are a variety of dolls clad in different Nigerian traditional costumes, African braids, head gears, exotic beads, with different Nigerian names that represented the three main Nigerian tribes.
